Choice of First Name - 1. Principle

Where no legal filiation link between child and father has been established, the mother, or, in her default, the family of the mother, shall give the first name to the child.

If a legal filiation link between child and father is established after the birth of the child, but before the child reaches the age of majority, the parents of the child may modify the first name given in accordance with sub-Article (2) by making a joint declaration before any civil status officer within a period of six months after the, establishment of the legal filiation link.
