Article 157

No sentence of death may be carried out without confirmation of the conviction and sentence by the Supreme Court and confirmation by the Head of State of Eritrea pursuant to Article 64 of the Penal Code.

If the sentence is confirmed, it shall be carried out in accordance with the conditions laid down in the order of confirmation.

If the sentence is commuted to a term of imprisonment, the order of commutation shall be sufficient authority for carrying into effect the terms of such order.
