The surety who has paid shall be indemnified by the principal debtor, whether the suretyship had been given with or without the latter’s knowledge.

Such indemnity claim shall apply to the principal, interest and costs incurred.
The surety may claim to be refunded with such costs only as he incurred since he notified the principal debtor of the proceedings directed against himself.
