cruel or accompanied by torture;
committed pursuant to an agreement for hire;
committed to facilitate the commission of, or conceal the commission of, or aid in the escape from detection, arrest or conviction for any offence classified in this Code as a serious offence;
committed for terrorist or political motives or for reasons of ethnic or religious bias or hatred;
committed by means that the person who commits the crime knows will kill more than one person and in fact more than one death results; or
committed as member of a band or gang organized for carrying out armed robbery,
is guilty of aggravated murder, a Class 1 serious offence, punishable with life imprisonment, or, in cases of exceptional gravity, with death, or with a definite term of imprisonment of not less than 23 years and not more than 27 years.
Death sentence shall be passed where the offender has committed aggravated murder while serving a sentence of imprisonment for life.
