Article 1172
Quotations
The author cannot forbid quotations from his work, if the work from which the quotation is taken has been lawfully communicated to the public, and the quotation is in conformity with that which may be reasonably accepted in accordance with social custom and the number and length of the quoted passages are justified by the purpose to be achieved.
#In the case of a short work, or in the case of a work as referred to in Article 1157, paragraphs (c) or (d), the entire work may be reproduced for the purpose and under the conditions stated in sub-Article (1) of this Article, if done in such a way that the reproduction differs appreciably in size or process of manufacture from the original work.
#For the purposes of this article quotations includes quotations from articles that have appeared in daily or weekly newspapers, weeklies or other periodicals in the form of press reviews.
#The provisions of this article shall also apply to quotations in a language other than the original.
