(1)
If an obligation is extinguished either wholly or in part through a set-off, then the creditor, who is aware of the fact causing the extinction is bound on request to provide the other party at the latter’s expense with a document in proof of that fact, unless something different results from contract, custom or equity.

If the creditor possesses documentary evidence relating to the debt, then the debtor may, in addition, require the surrender thereof unless the creditor has a reasonable interest in keeping the said evidence and the necessary endorsement is placed thereon.
