Article 53

The civil status officer shall ensure that the births, deaths and marriages taking place within his jurisdiction be entered in the register of civil status.

The civil status officer shall ensure that the following events be added to the birth records by way of a later annotation:

acknowledgment of a child;

adoption of a child;

judicial establishment of paternity;

contestation of paternity judicially declared well-founded;

annulment of an acknowledgment;

revocation of an adoption; and

change of name of a child.

The civil status officer shall ensure that the following events be added to the records of marriage by way of subsequent annotation:

divorce;

dissolution of marriage by the Court;

decision by the Court whether a divorce has been pronounced or not.

Subsequent annotations are part of the civil registers. Provisions regarding records shall apply mutatis mutandis to subsequent annotations.
